AEW superstar Britt Baker has taken to social media to clarify comments she made about the WWE’s developmental system.
Baker’s comments stem from a 2021 interview with the Washington Post, in which she criticized WWE’s plan of taking in young athletes with no backgrounds in wrestling, rather than signing independent wrestlers. After the quotes began making the rounds on Monday, Baker quickly took to Twitter to say that the quotes spreading were being taken out of context.
“This quote is out of context and incomplete,” said Baker in her statement. “It’s from 2021 when WWE stated they would stop signing indie wrestlers and focus on pro-athletes. I think most pro wrestlers would tell you how valuable the independent wrestling circuit was to their development, and multiple girls you listed all came from the indies. It wasn’t a dig at the PC; it was in support of independent wrestling.”
Britt Baker’s full quotes seem to clarify more of her point, where she noted that “people learn differently” and have different strengths and weaknesses, and that Baker thinks would-be wrestlers should have the chance to find that out on their own.
