Brandi Rhodes shares her initial reaction to finding out that her husband, Cody Rhodes, was considering a return to WWE.
It’s been over 15 months since Cody Rhodes made his official return to WWE. After a 10-year tenure with WWE, Rhodes initially exited the company in 2016. In the years following his WWE departure, Rhodes began molding himself into “The American Nightmare”. During this time, Rhodes also racked up appearances in promotions like IMPACT Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and NJPW. In late 2018, however, Rhodes helped lay the foundation for All Elite Wrestling.
Upon AEW’s official launch in 2019, Cody Rhodes quickly cemented himself as one of their top stars. Through his journey in AEW, Rhodes became a three-time TNT Champion. As time went on, though, Rhodes began craving “the big one,” which he later specified as the WWE Championship. With this motivation, Rhodes left AEW in February 2022. Two months later, Rhodes made a surprise return to WWE at WrestleMania 38, where he defeated Seth Rollins.
During a recent interview with Denise Salcedo, Brandi Rhodes — the wife of Cody Rhodes — was asked to recall her initial reaction upon hearing Cody’s thoughts of possibly returning to WWE.
“When people have an angel and a devil on their shoulder, I think I’m the one in red most of the time. but I’m usually the one that gets the job done,” Brandi said, “because the second he said that, I was like, ‘I don’t know why we haven’t had this conversation earlier. Like, it’s about time that we have this conversation. How can you realize your dream when you’re not at the place that your dream is at? So, yeah, you should talk to [WWE]. If this is what you want to do, you should do it 100%.'”
In addition to Cody’s return to WWE, the couple also embarked on another change — the birth of their daughter, Liberty Iris. As the duo continue to adjust to the recent shifts in their personal and professional lives, Brandi shared most important thing she has learned through their journey.
“Just to go with the flow. You can plan and you can have a mind goal of what you want to do and how you want to do it, and then things change. And when they change, you have to be malleable. You have to mold, and you have to continue to evolve with it. I will tell you, two years ago, I didn’t think anything that was going on right now, including me having a child, was going to happen. So we live and we learn,” Brandi said.
