Raw Underground is coming to WWE NXT, and Gable Steveson is going to help one of the competitors train for it.
During the June 20 edition of NXT Gold Rush, Damon Kemp approached Eddy Thorpe backstage and challenged him to settle their feud in a Raw Underground match in two weeks on July 4. They will fight in a 20×20 ring with no ropes where the only way to win is by knockout or submission.
Later in the show, Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson appeared and offered to help Thorpe train. He noted that he knows Kemp better than anyone. Kemp is Steveson’s brother, Bobby Steveson, in real life.
Gable signed a NIL deal with WWE in 2021, and he was drafted to WWE RAW. He appeared at WrestleMania 38, and he also made an appearance on WWE SmackDown in 2022. Steveson reportedly intends to use his final year of NCAA eligibility.
WWE previously used the Raw Underground gimmick in the late summer of 2020 in an attempt to increase WWE Raw’s viewership in the third hour. Shane McMahon initially served as the host, while stars like Braun Strowman and Dabba-Kato competed.
Kemp and Thorpe have been feuding since May when Thorpe was victorious in their first singles match. They rematched on the June 6 episode, but Thorpe was able to win again when used the ropes for an assist.
WrestleZone will have complete coverage of NXT as it airs on July 4.
