Madi Wrenkowski is letting everyone see just how great she is.
The 2023 NWA Crockett Cup event will feature an eight-woman Hardcore Team War, pitting La Rosa Negra, Samantha Starr, and M95 (Madi Wrenkowski and Missa Kate) against Pretty Empowered (Ella Envy, Kenzie Paige, Kylie Paige, and Roxy).
Madi Wrenkowski spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard ahead of the event and shared a little bit of strategy heading into her match.
“It’s hard to prepare for. I feel like there are just so many elements in that match. I feel like Pretty Empowerrred almost has an advantage just because they know each other. They work together, whereas me and Missa haven’t really worked with Samantha and La Rosa, and even though it’s basically one-on-one, outside factors do matter,” she explained. “So there’s a lot going on in my mind. I think Pretty Empowered has a pompous attitude about what they think they can accomplish. But in reality, they are just children. So whatever they think that they’re gonna throw at us, it’s definitely gonna get hit right back ten times harder.”
It was noted that Baby Doll will also be in Madi’s corner for the match on behalf of her daughter, Samantha Starr.
“Yeah, it is. But from what I’ve seen in the past, she definitely only has her daughter’s intentions in mind, so we’ll see how that plays out.”
Speaking more in detail about forging a bond with Missa Kate, Madi said they definitely complement each other. They might not have the chemistry that other long-tenured teams have, but an NWA Women’s Tag Team Championship win highlights their success so far.
“It’s been good. We definitely are two very A-type personalities. Sometimes that works really well together, sometimes we butt heads. But I think we’re both very honest blunt people, too, where we are able to eventually have the same end goal and move forward,” she explained. “So working together, we are learning each other. We’re like, same-same, but different.
“I’m very — do you think of like Texas and you think of like rough in a sense? For me, I am very blunt. When I wrestle, my style is like, I like to beat the crap out of people. And she’s from Chicago, and you think of [the reputation of] Chicago. So they like to complement each other, but they’re not the same. But yeah, so we are learning to work with each other,” Madi explained, “and I think that the NWA titles, and being able to represent them, it was just a matter of time. I mean, like, I’m already great. I just needed that platform to make everyone else know how great I am. And Missa is along for the ride as well.”
The 2023 NWA Crockett Cup takes place on June 3 and 4 and it will air on FITE. Watch our full interview with Madi Wrenkowski below:
