Cathy Kelley explains how her WWE return came together.
More than two years after her exit from the company, Cathy Kelley made her official return to WWE in October 2022. Upon her resurgence, Kelley settled into the RAW brand as a backstage interviewer. Recently speaking with Denise Salcedo, Kelley revealed that an email from then Co-CEO Stephanie McMahon ignited the conversation for her return.
“It started with just an email to Steph. We always talk catch up on where I was at in life, and she recommended having a Zoom — because everything is over Zoom now — and it just kind of snowballed from there. It felt very quick. About a month before I came back, [the] ball got rolling and before I knew it, I was on a plane to Monday Night RAW. So, back and better than ever.”
Kelley continued on to note that her initial departure never felt like a true chapter ending. “I feel like it was a ‘We’ll see you later,’ not a complete goodbye,” she said. “So, I always knew like WWE is [home]. I love it. It’s in my veins at this point. So, coming back just felt very natural. I think being a part of Monday Night RAW, doing backstage interviews there, it just feels like what was always meant to happen. So, it feels really good. I look forward to every Monday. I feel like I just feel very grateful that loving your job is, a part of my daily life.”
During her time away from the company, Kelley revealed that she explored, and completed, some exciting new projects. “When I was gone, I worked on some writing projects. I worked on a feature film. I worked on a pilot, worked on an illustrating project. So hopefully those will come to light of day soon,” she said.
