Drew McIntyre says he has aligned with Sheamus because they want to save wrestling.
McIntyre and Sheamus have been both friends and rivals on WWE programming over the years. They have battled it out on a number of occasions, but they joined forces on the November 11 episode of WWE SmackDown, when “The Scottish Warrior” helped Sheamus and the Brawling Brutes fight The Bloodline (Roman Reigns, The Usos, and Solo Sikoa).
Speaking on The Rick and Cutter Show, McIntyre discussed his history with Sheamus and noted that they’ve been through a lot together. He stated that they’re deadly when they’re fighting on the same side. The former WWE Champion also shared his excitement for the way Sheamus has been enjoying a career resurgence.
“We’ve been around each other for 20 years in wrestling and life and all the ups and downs they both bring,” McIntyre said. “I don’t think there’s anything we’ve not seen together or done together. It’s pretty cool to see his resurgence at Clash at the Castle and kind of finally getting his flowers and his respect for everything that he’s done and achieved and the quality matches he brings every single week.
“It’s pretty cool to be back side by side with him. Everybody knows, on the TV shows, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus are deadly together but deadly together could make us turn on each other at given point and start fighting each other. We’re back on the same page just in time because somebody has to take down The Bloodline.”
McIntyre stated that he and Sheamus are back on the same page, as they’re both determined to save wrestling and get the world titles off of Reigns.
“Finally Sheamus and I had a little chat, just about his wedding time because he needed a best man,” McIntyre said. “Got back on the same page and realized, ‘What the hell are we doing fighting? We need to be fighting together, not against each other because we need to save wrestling, we need to save those world championships and get them off Roman.'”
“The Scottish Warrior” also teased that he will compete in a WarGames Match at WWE Survivor Series by saying, “Everybody make sure to check our WarGames. I’m gonna get in that thing.”
