Eddie Kingston says he doesn’t look for trouble, but it often finds him because people mess with him.
“The Mad King” was in the news in August due to a reported backstage confrontation with Sammy Guevara. He was subsequently suspended, and he has since returned to AEW TV.
During an appearance on Busted Open Podcast Live ahead of AEW All Out, Mark Henry gave Kingston credit for “not taking s—” and being willing to fight people. Kingston responded that it gets him in trouble, and he’s just being himself.
“[People like it] because they probably feel the same way, I don’t know,” Kingston said. “I’m just able to say it. It’s just the way I’ve always been raised. If I don’t like you, just don’t mess with me. It seems like people like to mess with me when I don’t like them for some reason. I don’t look for trouble, but trouble finds me. That’s the way I like to put it. I just don’t any problem not going after trouble. If it’s there, then it’s there. If it’s not, it’s ok. He came to me. That’s what I told God the other day. I said look, he came to me.”
When Dave LaGrsca noted that Kingston is the kind of person who comes off as an honest individual that’s easy to read, he replied, “That’s my mother. That’s where I got it from, my mom’s just like that. You could tell right away.”
“The Mad King” also described how fans liking him still seems weird because he doesn’t view himself as a larger-than-life person. Instead, he’s just someone who’s living their dream.
“It’s weird to me,” Kingston said. “It’s still very uncomfortable when fans like me and tell me stuff. I’m just like, uh huh. I don’t know what to say. I’m just me. Okay cool, thank you. But I’m not some special guy. I was just a guy who wanted to pro wrestle since he was nine years old, and I’ve been able and lucky enough to do it. So that’s the way I look at it. I don’t see myself as above anybody or below anybody. I’m just me, and that’s it. Take it or leave it.”
