Jonathan Gresham did what was best for business in his eyes on the July 8 episode of AEW Rampage. In doing so, he set up a title match on next week’s episode.
On Friday, the reigning ROH World Champion teamed up with Lee Moriarty to face the Gates of Agony, two of Blanchard’s clients. Moriarty previously challenged Gresham to a match for the title, but Blanchard said his clients are more deserving. Gresham then proposed a tag team clash between the duos.
A few minutes into the contest, the Gates of Agony had isolated Moriarty, but he found some breathing room. When he went for a tag, Gresham pulled his hand back and hopped off the apron. The champion then hugged Blanchard, leaving Moriarty to feel the wrath of the two powerhouses as the Gates of Agony pinned him for the win.

Later in the show, Gresham explained his actions during a backstage interview. He stated that he was tired of sitting at home, so he decided to listen to Blanchard when the legend pitched his plan. Tony Schiavone then informed him that he’ll defend the title against Moriarty next week. The challenger took to Twitter to demand a shot at the gold, and Tony Khan responded by giving it to him. Blanchard then stated that all of his clients will be in attendance next week because Tully Blanchard Enterprises is alive and well.
AEW also announced that Private Party will face the Lucha Brothers on the show. Plus, the Gunn Club will explain why they turned on The Acclaimed. Billy Gunn sided with his sons and attacked Max Caster and Anthony Bowens on the July 6 episode of AEW Dynamite.
The updated card is as follows:
- ROH World Championship: Jonathan Gresham (c) vs. Lee Moriarty
- Private Party vs. Lucha Brothers
- The Gunn Club explain why they turned on The Acclaimed
WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs.
