Josh Alexander defends his IMPACT World Championship against Eric Young this Sunday at Slammiversary.
In addition, Slammiversary marks the first time ever Alexander and Young will meet in the ring one-on-one. Ahead of this enticing championship matchup, Josh Alexander spoke with Ella Jay for SEScoops about his thoughts on “Violent By Design”, Eric Young, and the impending face off between the two fellow Canadians.
“Well, I have a little chip on my shoulder with Eric Young where it’s a little more heated rivalry than it would be for just the Violent by Design and just for the championship and all that stuff. That’s all in there, too. But the little added spice to it is that when I started in 2005 as a professional wrestler and started training, everybody was talking about “The Legend of Showtime”, Eric Young, and how he’s the greatest wrestler to ever come out of the independent scene in Ontario, Canada, because he had signed with TNA shortly before that. I only heard the legends and I of course followed his career through TNA and IMPACT Wrestling and he’s done it all here,” Alexander regarded.
“He’s amazing. I call him the Swiss Army Knife of Wrestling,” he continued. “He can make you laugh, he can make you cry, he can scare you, and he can have a good match with literally a broomstick. But I took exception to him being known as the best wrestler to come out of Ontario, Canada. Now I’ve built that up through my career, where now I’m regarded as probably one of the best in Ontario, Canada. So we’re actually going to find out once and for all when we face off one on one at Slammiversary on Sunday who the best to come out of Ontario really is.”
As Josh Alexander walks into IMPACT Slammiversary as the World Champion, he explains how he’s adjusted to being the champ and his role as the face of the company now.
“I recognize the responsibility that I carry because being champion, being the face of IMPACT wrestling, sure, I’m the face of the brand. I’m the one that has to trumpet and rah-rah for IMPACT all the time, which is so easy for me because I started as a fan. I love this place. I can rhyme off names left and right and talk about the history of this company all day long and and I enjoy it,” he revealed.
Alexander went on to explain how serious he takes his role. “I take the role especially seriously because the respect of my peers matters to me a lot. I love this locker room, I love the crew. I love everybody here so much. As much as this is a singular pursuit and professional wrestling, I think we all look at this like a team and we all have a chip on my shoulder. We’re all the little engine that could fight back and show that we belong and that we are the best and to represent them as the face of IMPACT Wrestling. That’s the thing I take most serious.”
IMPACT Wrestling celebrates their 20-year anniversary this Sunday, June 19th at Slammiversary, live on FITETV.
