Tarzan Goto, best known for his work in Atushi Onita’s FMW, passed away on May 29 at the age of 58 following a battle of liver cancer. Goto was originally a sumo wrestler but made the transition to pro wrestling in 1981. He worked for All Japan and found himself becoming the 1983 Tokyo Sports’ Rookie Of The Year. Goto went on to hone his craft in the United States before beginning to work for Onita in 1985. He participated in the first ever no ropes exploding barbed wire cage match against Onita.
“I still can’t believe it, and I can’t really feel it. Thanks to Mr. Goto’s strict teaching, what I’ve been able to do for many years is a fortune. I’m just grateful. I pray for [his] soul,” said Mr. Gassouke, who was trained by Goto at the FMW dojo.
Goto leaves behind three children to his former wife, Despina Montagas. We at WrestleZone would like to extend our condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Mr. Goto at this time.
