Two days after he returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 Night One, Cody Rhodes opened the show on the RAW after WrestleMania.

The live crowd gave him a warm welcome and chanted his name. “The American Nightmare” asked the fans what they want to talk about, and he looked back on his free agency. He acknowledged all the theories that were out there, and he called them nonsense. He stated that his decision to return was simple. He explained that if there was a glimmer of doubt, his triumph at WrestleMania erased it. Rhodes then shared the quote that he found his destiny on a path where he was trying to avoid it.

Cody then pointed to the tron, where his father, Dusty Rhodes was prominently featured. Rhodes choked him and called his dad his hero. He described how Dusty never held the actual World Championship in WWE, and he looked back on the way Dusty won a title match, but he didn’t take home the gold due to the champion’s advantage. Cody emphasized how, when he was eight years old, he vowed to win the championship and hand it to his father, but that dream died. But the opportunity is still here, as he can still win the gold.
“The American Nightmare” then declared that he’s ready to win the title for his family, his fans, his father, and himself. Cody’s WrestleMania opponent, Seth Rollins came to the ring and confronted him. Rhodes dropped his microphone and extended his hand; Rollins smiled and shook it.
