Jay White, the leader of Bullet Club, shocked the wrestling world at IMPACT Sacrifice when he turned on Guerrillas of Destiny and seemingly kicked them out of the group, or at least his version of it. This stunning betrayal left many fans wondering why “Switchblade” would spurn a duo that’s practically synonymous with the stable. In a new interview, the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion explained his reason.
Speaking with Lan Pitts of GameSpot, White noted GOD’s failure to win New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s World Tag League last year and argued that the two men lost the right call themselves the best team in the world. By contrast, he pointed to the Good Brothers’ success and their history with IMPACT Wrestling. The latter factor was influential in White’s decision, as he considered it a trade up.
“They’ve proven to be the best tag team, and hey GOD in the New Japan Tag League couldn’t even go after those belts,” White said with a laugh. “I think it was Yujiro and EVIL that got past them so once that started happening, I don’t think you have any claim to being the best tag team in the world anymore.”
“The Good Brothers on the other hand…and if you want to talk about somebody who has been there since the start, so were Karl Anderson and Gallows almost as well, if only by a short time. Those guys have their Impact Tag Team Championships so I feel like I’m trading up, but it’s also somebody with a history here.”
To elaborate, White stated that he had to “get rid of” Guerrillas of Destiny because they cling to the past, whereas he wants to focus on the future.
“It’s never been on three shows before like this and having myself picking the right guys and being younger than the other leaders, or whatever you want to call them, I feel like I might be able to what’s coming to the future rather than those who hold on to the past,” said White. “That’s why we had to get rid of those guys anyway.”
Time will tell what the future holds for Bullet Club. As for”Switchblade”, he’ll compete against “Speedball” Mike Bailey at NJPW Lonestar Shootout.
