All Elite Wrestling continues to bring in major stars; most recently, Tony Khan brought in his newest major signing, Keith Lee on the February 9 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Lee’s arrival electrified the wrestling world, as many fans hoped to see the former NXT Champion shine in his new home. His time on the WWE main roster was hindered by medical issues and inconsistent booking, but “The Limitless One” shined in his AEW debut.
In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, the AEW CEO discussed Lee’s first night as a member of the AEW roster. He called it “incredible” before he made it clear that he had his sights set on Lee as soon as he was released.
“Keith’s debut was incredible,” Khan said. “Much to my amazement, Keith got released. As soon as I saw that he was released, this was the moment I dreamed about.”
Khan also acknowledged the “crazy timing” of the ability to bring Lee in, as it was surprising that he was on the open market in the first place. He also emphasized that he’s looking forward to having Lee on the roster from here on out.
“It was crazy timing,” Khan said. “I’m so happy with how the debut has been received. It’s very well deserved, and I am very excited to have Keith in AEW.”
Lee’s debut wasn’t the only shocker on Wednesday night, as NJPW star Jay White made his first appearance on AEW programming; he seemingly aligned with The Superkliq. Khan made it clear that White will be back in AEW, as he likes utilizing the Forbidden Door when the situation calls for it.
“Expect to see more Jay White in AEW,” Khan said. “He came through the ‘Forbidden Door’, and there were many reasons his arrival transpired the way it did on Dynamite. That wasn’t finalized until Sunday, and I’m so happy that we could bring that excitement to the fans.
“I wanted to have that ‘Forbidden Door’ element to our show. It was intentional to have that moment backstage, reuniting members of the Bullet Club against their old rivals from Chaos in Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta.”
Lee dominated in his in-ring debut on Wednesday, while White’s future is up in the air, as he hasn’t signed with the company. Fans will just have to wait and see what happens next with both top stars.
