Mickie James finally gets a chance to share the ring with Chelsea Green in a televised match, and she says it’s great to see how much her opponent has grown in recent months.
Knockouts Champion Mickie James recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard and took some time to tout the recent success of Chelsea Green. James and Green will face off on the February 10 episode of IMPACT Wrestling, but they also had a feud that almost came to fruition while they were both still with WWE. Green previously told Fightful that there were plans to recreate James’ infamous stalker angle with Trish Stratus, where Green would be the Mickie and James would be in the Trish role this time, and they even taped a full match.
James previously said she’s not sure why the feud was kept off of television, but felt like there was something “magical” about what could have been. Now speaking to WrestleZone about finally getting the chance to work together on TV, James confirmed that a match and some other segments were taped for the feud and said that it’s been great to see how much Green has done since her WWE departure. James added that they’ve both been on different journeys since being released in 2021, but she wants to keep watching Green seize the moment as she’s been doing all year.
“I’m very excited to wrestle Chelsea,” James admitted. “I’ve been a huge supporter of Chelsea since day one, I was excited to be able to do a different type of angle with her that was going to be fun and exciting. For me too, I was looking for [my next step], what was I going to do on television next. I was coming back from my injury and was looking for what felt right and what was gonna be fun. I just love telling stories and I love all the drama in-between and it’s really exciting to come up with stuff like that.
“Chelsea and I got let go [from WWE] the same day and I watched her from winning the first-ever NWA Women’s Invitational Cup, to her stuff at GCW to Ring of Honor — it’s crazy to think because we’ve been on different journeys since that departure and she’s been killing it,” James said. “I’m very, very proud of her and everything that she’s done and it goes to show that sometimes — the dream is different for everyone. It doesn’t necessarily have to be that one thing and we all hoped for that one thing, I think, because when we all first started the journey, the idea is to go to WWE because that is the pinnacle of success in our industry and once you’ve been there and recognize it and then leave, I think a lot of people think that once you leave then you’re done.
“So, to be able to take that moment and make more of it and really just live your life on your own terms, it’s so empowering and it’s so exciting to see. I’m just really proud of her, I really, really am,” James added. “I think she’s been doing an incredible job. So, obviously, to be able to wrestle her and to be able to have that moment with her is amazing but I just wanna keep watching her shine because I think she’s brilliant.”
