Longtime wrestling television producer Keith Mitchell‘s career will come to an end as he plans to retire after tonight’s New Year’s Smash special of AEW Dynamite.
Keith Mitchell has been part of the wrestling industry for the last 40 years, producing television for World Class, WCW, IMPACT, and All Elite Wrestling. While Mitchell’s name might not be on the tip of every wrestling fan’s tongue, the impact that he’s made on the industry through the last several decades can’t be understated.
AEW owner Tony Khan took to social media this afternoon to make the shocking announcement:
“Tonight’s the last #AEWDynamite ever on TNT & this event New Year’s Smash is very special as this will be the final wrestling event produced by the great Keith Mitchell in his amazing 40 year career spanning World Class/WCW/Impact/@AEW. Let’s make Keith’s retirement show a Smash!” Tony Khan said in a tweet.
This certainly comes as a surprise announcement, and one has to ponder who might be next in line to fill Mitchell’s enormous shoes. Hopefully, we’ll find out soon enough.
Mitchell signed on with AEW in April 2019. His work has been praised by countless names in the wrestling business, including Cody Rhodes, Chris Jericho, Eric Bischoff, and David Penzer, who told WrestleZone that one of his favorite memories involved working with Mitchell at the 1992 WCW War Games event in Jacksonville.
