Angelina Love is one of the most renowned members of the resurgent women’s division in Ring of Honor; between her time in ROH and her remarkable run in TNA/IMPACT Wrestling, Love is a seven-time women’s champion. But with so many accomplishments already in her rearview mirror, it’s fair to wonder how long Love will continue to compete as an active wrestler.
During a recent appearance on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, Love shared her thoughts on her potential retirement by explaining that while she’s not ready to hang up her boots, she already knows that she’d like to transition into a backstage role when that time comes.
“I don’t want to wrestle forever,” said Love. “But I also don’t feel like I’m anywhere near done, and nobody can tell me when I’m done. I don’t want to retire and come back and retire and come back and retire and come back. I would like to try very hard, no, when I do retire, it is actually my retirement. And then maybe going into like a backstage role or something because I would love to do that. But I just feel like I have so much more to give. Like I’m still really good, and I’m not patting myself on the back, but I am. So I don’t want to be done yet. I just will be when I feel like I should be. And I don’t know when that is.
Later in the interview, Love elaborated on her comments; she described how she wants to become an agent or a producer because she wants to share her knowledge with the next generation. In fact, she mentioned that she has already agented a few matches in ROH.
“I don’t even know what the heck my life would have been if I didn’t wrestle or have wrestling,” said Love. “And when I’m done physically competing, I still want to, I feel like I have a lot to give to upcoming generations, just because I’ve had so much time in the business, so much TV experience. I feel like I have a lot to be able to give on to people, especially it comes to promo work, because I feel like I have a great promo story.
“But I just would to be like an agent, a match agent, which I have done a few times in Ring of Honor, I’ve agented. If I wasn’t wrestling that day, I’ve agented the girl’s match, and I love it. Or being like a producer or doing something backstage. Because I always feel like I’m gonna be that person where wrestling is probably gonna be a part of my life forever, just not physically doing it. So I do want to transition into that backstage whenever I feel like I’m physically done.”
