AEW Spanish Announcer Caught On Camera Mocking Asian Accents During AEW Dynamite (Updated)

UPDATE: PWInsider.com and F4WOnline.com’s Dave Meltzer are both reporting that Willie Urbina was released by All Elite Wrestling on Saturday.

AEW Spanish announcer Willie Urbina was caught on-air mocking Hikaru Shida’s Asian accent last night during AEW Dynamite’s Spanish commentary.

During the late-night viewing of Dynamite, Shida, the AEW Women’s Champion, was welcomed out to celebrate her one-year anniversary as the titleholder and was presented with a new gold-plated title to commemorate the occasion. Before the segment took place, however, audio that was aired on FITE TV had lead Spanish commentator Alex Abrahantes asking Urbina to do translations for certain talent, Shida included. Urbina then spoke incoherently in an Asian accent, prompting Thunder Rosa and Dasha Kuret to admonish him for it. Audio and translation are below.

Alex Abrahantes: “Do Shida.”

Willie Urbina: Speaks incoherently using a stereotypical accent.

Thunder Rosa: “Shut up, holy crap!”

Willie Urbina: Continues on with accent.

Thunder Rosa: “I will throw the pen at you if you don’t stop.”

Dasha Kuret: “Stop it! You are mean.”

During her promo, Shida raised the new title and let the fans know that this belt is for them before she was interrupted by Britt Baker. Shida is set to defend her AEW Women’s Championship against Britt Baker this Sunday at Double or Nothing and Britt made clear that she wants to be the face of a “new era” in women’s wrestling.
