Stamford, Conn. – Sept. 29, 2020 – Actor, Director, Producer, and Americares board member Tony Goldwyn and Actor and Musician Jackie Cruz will co-host the Americares Airlift Benefit Livestream on Saturday, Oct. 3.
The special one-hour livestream will debut on americares.org/Airlift2020, Americares Facebook Page, and Americares YouTube Channel at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.
The annual benefit celebrates the organization’s life-changing health programs in more than 90 countries and the health workers and partners who make them happen. Americares supports more than 4,000 health centers worldwide with transformative health projects and donations of medicine, improving the health of millions of people in need every year.
This year’s benefit will honor frontline health workers—the heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic—and take Americares supporters on a unique virtual journey to see the organization’s work in Colombia, Jordan, Liberia, Malawi, the Philippines, and the United States.
“While we cannot come together physically for this year’s benefit, we can still gather virtually to honor the world’s 60 million health workers and raise critical funds to support our life-saving health programs,” said Americares President and CEO Christine Squires. “We look forward to an inspirational and unforgettable night.”
CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta will present the Bob and Leila Macauley Humanitarian Spirit Award to five health workers who represent the courageous and dedicated workforce saving lives and creating healthier futures all around the world.
Actor, Director, Producer and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” star Melissa Joan Hart, “Terminator: Dark Fate” star Natalia Reyes and CNN Anchor and National Correspondent and Americares board member Erica Hill, will also make special appearances along with WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and WWE Superstars Mustafa Ali, Lacey Evans, Zelina Vega, and Xavier Woods.
Both Goldwyn and Cruz are longtime Americares supporters and champions of its health programs for people affected by poverty or disaster.
“I have traveled with Americares to Guatemala and Puerto Rico and have met the most dedicated and amazing people,” said Goldwyn. “I can’t wait to share that experience with others and virtually take them into the hospitals and clinics Americares supports all over the world.”
Cruz had an emotional visit last year to an Americares-supported youth center in the Dominican Republic across from her former school.
“I saw firsthand the incredible lifesaving work Americares is doing around the world when I traveled with them to my homeland,” Cruz said. “I am so honored to be able to take benefit guests on a virtual experience showcasing the organization’s impact across the globe.”
Goldwyn and his wife, Production Designer and Americares Free Clinics board member Jane Musky, are co-chairing this year’s fundraiser along with James and Roberta Conroy, Francine and John Katsoudas and Joy and Dr. Eric Weintz.
