According to a new consent order filed in Maryland (h/t to the Baltimore Sun), the Maryland State Athletic Commission has fined Ring of Honor Wrestling $4,000 due to Mark Haskins bleeding during his match with Bully Ray at Final Battle 2019.
The MSAC issued the fine due to Bully Ray’s (Mark LoMonaco) use of “a large plywood board which had been laced with coils of barbed wire.” It was further stated in the filing that
“During the match, Mr. LoMonaco lifted Mr. Haskins and threw him onto the table which held the plywood-barbed wire apparatus. The impact of Mr. Haskins against the plywood barbed-wire apparatus and table caused the table to break in half, and Mr. Haskins suffered lacerations due to coming into contact with the barbed wire.”
Ring Of Honor agreed to consent orders with the athletic commission in an effort to avoid litigation. It was noted that they could be suspended from the state for future violations, but the fine could be reduced to $2,000 if the company commits no further violations in the next year.
Patrick Pannella, the athletic commission’s executive director, said (via email) that the consent orders issued were considered as a deterrent of any future violations of a similar nature.
The Sun article also references All Elite Wrestling being fined by the MSAC due to the Lights Out match between Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley at AEW Full Gear in November. That complaint was filed by former WCW announcer Chris Cruise. However, according to Cruise, he did not file the complaint against Ring Of Honor.
