More details about the decision from WWE officials to bring back the King of the Ring tournament has surfaced online.
It’s been reported that the tournament finals will take place at the upcoming Clash of Champions pay-per-view event next month in North Carolina.
Dave Meltzer was asked during the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio whether the return of the tournament was one of the ideas pitched by the USA Network to increase television ratings.
This comes after it was reported that the television network pitched various ideas months ago which one was the introduction of the WWE 24/7 Title.
Meltzer said that he wasn’t sure, but noted that it was being done to push a specific wrestler. It’s unknown who at this time. It is being built around pushing one star who will supposedly be the winner of the tournament.
