During the NXT TV tapings on February 20th, a major title angle between Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano has taken shape. The two had reformed DIY and competed in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic at the beginning of the tapings. DIY then made it to the semi-finals of the tournament, but lost to the team of Aleister Black and Ricochet.
After the match Gargano was helped up the ramp by Ciampa and Candice LeRae. While making their way up the ramp Ciampa attempted to throw Gargano into the tron. The current NXT Champion’s attempt at attacking Gargano was unsuccessful, as the former NXT North American Champion reversed the move and threw Ciampa into the tron. It was then implied by Gargano that he is going for the NXT Championship and posed at the top of the ramp with LeRae.
