During tonight’s NXT television tapings at Full Sail University, The Velveteen Dream won the NXT North American Championship, defeating Johnny Gargano in the main event.
Here’s our description of the angle that led up to the match from our full NXT spoilers:
Johnny Gargano comes out with the NXT North American Championship. As he celebrates his victory, Tommaso Ciampa comes out. He says that they are celebrating together because Gargano became a champion by following Ciampa’s own lead. He says that they’re unstoppable together. However, Gargano pushes back and says that this isn’t their moment but his. He doesn’t need Ciampa. They’re both interrupted by Velveteen Dream. Dream says that he stole TakeOver by simply being there and since he won the When Worlds Collide tournament that he has a title shot of his choosing. He winds up challenging Gargano for the North American Championship.

After the match, Gargano attacked Dream as he was celebrating his title victory and stole the North American Championship as he joined Tommaso Ciampa on stage.

The match looks to be airing sometime towards the end of February, leading to another potential match-up between Gargano and Ciampa.
