Neville, or PAC, shocked the world when he decided to call it quits in WWE. In late 2017, it was revealed that he had a contract dispute from WWE and had seemingly quit the company. It had taken nearly a year after WWE froze his contract for them to agree to a release. It’s not clear as to why what transpired led to it, but Neville hinted at it on an Instagram story.
He simply stated “They took the throne from the king and gave it to a wannabe rapper”. While it’s obviously not anything confirmed, it’s possible that a variety of factors led to what happened. Enzo Amore beating Neville for the Cruiserweight title may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back.
It’s really interesting what happened because when Neville entered the Cruiserweight division at the start of 2017, things were clearly changing for the better. They took a wrong turn with the direction when Amore appeared and it took them a while to re-establish the brand, something that’s been done successfully.
Either way, Neville did have an impact in WWE, but him leaving was probably for the best. Here’s why.
#5.) The Cruiserweight fiasco
Neville was leading the pack in the Cruiserweight division, losing very few times and being booked as the strong champion that he should have been. He called himself “The King of the Cruiserweights” and completely reinvented himself from being the simple high-flying babyface that fans loved.
He excelled as a character and even modified his ring work suitable to a heel character. While he and the rest of the division were building 205 Live up brick by brick, Amore came along and took the division by storm. There’s no doubt that he brought a lot more eyes to 205 Live, but the creative direction was nothing short of a fiasco.
They put the title on Amore in his first attempt and fans began to turn on him in no time. This can definitely be considered one of the “dark periods” of the reformed Cruiserweight division, and it’s a good thing that Neville decided that he wanted to be no part of it.
