After weeks of mind games and a number of brawls with no conclusion, Samoa Joe defeated Jeff Hardy to earn a spot in the fatal five-way main event.

Hardy and Joe have been at odds shortly after Survivor Series, in which Joe would insult Jeff’s newfound sobriety and attacking his personal demons. This all came to a head last week, in which Hardy and Joe fought to a no contest. History almost repeated itself in the rematch, as Joe gave Hardy a Coquina Clutch on the outside. Hardy would beat the count at nine but was quickly entrapped in the choke again until he passed out.

Now with a victory over his rival, a title opportunity now awaits Joe in the main event. He will join AJ Styles, Mustafa Ali, Randy Orton, and Rey Mysterio later tonight to determine the number one contender to Daniel Bryan’s WWE Championship.
